"First Flurries"

While wandering around the United States this fall, I was very fortunate to land in Southern Utah.   During that time, not only did I get to visit with my dear friends Jeff and Cheryl,  but also to visit Zion National Park.  It was the perfect time to be there.  The Zion Plein Air Festival was taking place!  Many talented artists shared workshops and demos.   It was a great event!  Jeff and I both took part in any and all the painting we could.

This particular day was a beautiful day to paint.  The sun was shining a warm 80 degrees in the park... but our 1/2 hour drive home thrust us into some definite weather changes!   From warm sunshine straight into the first flurries of the season and man did it snow!    So "First Flurries" 8 x 10 original oil came to be.

"Swansea"

Swansea, Massachusetts is a wonderful little New England town.  I was there visiting in October and while sitting on a dock wondering how to fill the day, I was visited by not one, not two, but dozens of beautiful swans.  How appropriate!   One swan in particular sat with it's wings fluffed and quietly paraded around saying in silent overtures,  "paint me"  and so of course, not being one who likes to argue with swans, did so.   Although it was a river, the name remains... Denali High, a palette knife painting of Mt McKinley painted plein air.

So much has been happening lately between art and travel I'm going to step back in time just a bit...

It was the last weekend in August of 2011 when the first ever Art in Alaska State Park took place. Over 40 Alaska artists gathered together at Byer's Lake. One of the states many beautiful places to camp, hike, canoe and of course paint. For three days and two nights, artists and friends camped in tents, motorhomes, and the wonderful Princess Lodge at Chulitna River. We were so blessed by beautiful weather and clear skies. It was the perfect opportunity to paint Mt McKinley. There was even events for hikers, children and of course a fantastic potluck for everyone. The event ended with a showing of all the art completed with many attendees including the Lt Gov Mead Treadwell. A big thank you to the State of Alaska for it's beauty and leaderships support.

"Red Hot Love"

After my previous post of "Cupcake Love" another good dose of kitchen style love is in order.  Setting up a single pepper with a nice strong light source was new to me but a lot of fun.  I'm sure I'll be trying this one again!

"Red Hot Love" is little in size, (only 3"x4" for the image and framed in a very festive way totaling 10"x12") but big in good taste!

"Cupcake Love"

What better thing to pair with a bottle of cupcake wine than a gourmet cupcake!  Both are quite the craze these daze and I can understand why.  So did the collector who quickly snatched it up :)  More to come soon.

"Know D' bait"

"Know D' bait"
is my first blog post ever and dedicated to friends.

"Know D' bait" is a special boat because it belongs to special friends and in my opinion, that is what makes living good.  The painting is about a morning we set out to go fishing.  The weather was just so-so, a little overcast and occasional rain, but the day was grand.  We caught fish, shared laughs and a fresh halibut dinner over the campfire that evening.  Homer, Alaska is always fun indeed but spent with friends makes it even better.
