Kelp Waters

12x12 Original Oil

The gentle sway.  The deep organic colors.
A world unlike the one we live each day.

Sitting in a kayak within a bed of kelp,
a paint box in my lap,
and the security of being held in place
 in the wide open ocean,
as though in a bowl of jello.

Kelp forests of the Channel Islands are fed by both warm and cool water currents.  They may grow 100' and provide food and shelter for over 1,000 species of plants and animals.   Hold fasts, which are root like structures, anchor them to the bottom.   The kelp forests slow the water movement allowing a life giving dwelling.
