Warm Caves

A new twist in paintings.

This is the beginning of a series painted from the Channel Islands.   They are located off the coast of California near Santa Barbara.  Artist, David Gallup, led two trips for artists exploring the island for five days on a dive boat.  I was extremely fortunate to be on both.  The boat "The Conception" is owned by Truth Aquatics  and in Sept of 2010 and 2011 was filled with artists and adventurists.

"Warm Caves" was painted on deck while anchored by one of the enchanting islands.  Organic in nature, these rock walls house many caves.  Some of these caves were kayaked into while others were navigated by close proximity by our experienced and talented Captain Jerry.

A little abstract in feeling, my hope is that you can sense the cold wet of the rock surface juxtaposed with the warmth of the light and minerals.  The subtle roll of the tide gave the golden living kelp bed new life.
